Welcome to Year 6!
Your teachers are Mrs Smith and Mrs Housley and you will be supported by Mrs Bevan, Mrs Sammut and Mrs Hodge.
Our aim for the year is to ensure that we develop the children’s confidence, independence and academic skills, so that they are as ready for their transition to high school as they can be.
We do this through implementing a curriculum designed to develop the key skills of English and Maths, as well as providing children with knowledge and skills from a wider range of subjects too. Another activity that we participate in to improve independence is a residential trip to London, for a West End theatre trip.
The children will be working on their Statutory Attainment Tests (SATs) in the week of May 13th – please keep this week free.
Later in the summer term, we also work hard on our end of year performance – something that the children, parents, staff and the younger children (those in the audience) all greatly enjoy. We also work at exciting transition units to give the children a taste of the kind of things they will be working on in secondary school.
Homework (usually Reading, Maths, English and Spellings) will be given out on Friday and will be returned the following Friday.
Children are also expected to read at least three times per week. Children should read their home school reading book, but please also encourage them to read other texts that they enjoy in order to promote a love for reading.
We readily invite you to look at our class blog to get a flavour of what we do day-to-day. Please feel free to contact us should you wish to discuss any matters regarding your child.
